A transitional housing site for homeless men. Since 1987 the Loreto House has been a safe haven for homeless men. In August of 1999 the building that housed this program on Elm Street was burned down by a massive fire. After an exhaustive search for a new facility, and extensive renovations, the program was finally relocated to 51 Hamilton Street in March of 2001.
On average, the program houses from 50-60 men each year. The program has 25 rooms and provides not only food and shelter to its residents but also access to medical care, various support services dealing with addictions, housing & employment search, life/survival skills, job preparation assistance, and other educational opportunities.
This around the clock program is partially funded by grants from CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) and FEMA.
The Loreto House is named after Sr. Mary Loreto, SP.
